With a top speed of around 171 miles per hour, it was also the sleekest and curviest version of the model to be produced. The C5 was equipped with an LS1 5.7L V8 good for approximately 345 horsepower and mated to either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Horsepower was increased to 350 in 2001. And although the model debuted as a coupe only, a convertible version was released in 1998. The Z06 replaced the ZR-1 using an upgraded LS6 engine capable of 385 horsepower, which was increased even more to 405 for the last two years of the C5's assembly.
