Chevrolet today unveiled the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the fastest, most capable convertible in Corvette’s history – as well as a 60th Anniversary Package that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models.
“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”

Like the Aveo, the Sonic will come as a 4-door sedan or hatchback, the sedan gaining about 4 in. in length, while it's slightly narrower and lower. The Sonic, however, shares the same 138-bhp 1.8-liter or turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinders as are available in the larger Cruze. The torque-laden turbo motor comes only with a 6-speed manual, while the 1.8-liter has a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. The turbo produces much more torque than the 1.8, and boost arrives without lag.

The Chevrolet Spark is only 144.7 inches long – nearly two feet shorter than the subcompact Sonic. But while the Spark is small in size, designers have made a real effort to make sure that it can still stand out in a crowd.
The Spark took the stage at the Los Angeles Auto Show in four distinct pastels, with oversized headlight assemblies-a-blazing. The Spark may be a bit of a runt, but it certainly boasts some height. It's 61 inches tall, or only six inches shorter than the Equinox crossover. The Spark also features plenty of room for four occupants, with 42 inches of front leg room and a respectable 35 inches for rear seat passengers.
Power comes from The General's diminutive 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine, with 85 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 82 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 RPM, mated to either a standard five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. That's not a lot of go-juice, but luckily the Spark weighs in at only 2,269 pounds when equipped with the manual transmission.
The little hatchback will feature an available MyLink infotainment system with a seven-inch touch screen that features smartphone-based navigation and Bluetooth for hands-free calling. The Spark also comes with standard 15-inch alloy wheels, which should help reduce cabin noise compared to the steel wheels that are standard on many subcompacts.

Chevrolet began deliveries of its Captiva fleet vehicle last week. The compact crossover is imported from Mexico and bears a striking resemblance to the recently deceased Saturn Vue. Don't think we're about to see the vehicle show up in the company's consumer lineup, however. General Motors says that the Captiva will remain a fleet-only offering in the near future. That doesn't mean that GM isn't keen to grow its compact crossover offerings, though. Automotive News reports that GM is currently mulling a high-riding vehicle based on the Sonic for both Chevrolet and Buick.
Earlier this year, our spy photographers spotted a high-riding Sonic out testing, and the AN report suggests that the baby Buick crossover could arrive on showroom floors sometime next year, possibly as a 2013 model. The only question is whether or not Chevrolet will follow suit with a version of its own. That would leave the Chevy lineup with the Traverse, Equinox and this new model for a very crossover-heavy lineup. GM is apparently considering every angle at this point.

Chevrolet touts 2012 Sonic's 40-mpg highway rating.
With an EPA-rated 40 mpg on the highway, Chevrolet is calling its 2012 Sonic one of the most fuel-efficient small cars on the market.
Chevy says that 40-mpg rating puts the Sonic right on par with the 2012 Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Accent in terms of eco-friendliness.
In city driving, the 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine gets 29 mpg. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the Sonic reaches 60 mph in 8.2 seconds, which isn't too shabby.
Production for the Sonic--the replacement for the Chevy Aveo and one of the only subcompact cars currently built in the United States--began this summer at a General Motors assembly plant in Michigan.

A handful of General Motors trucks and sport utility vehicles need to head on in to their local dealerships. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just issued a pair of recall notice for 7,507 vehicles as part of two separate safety actions.
The first covers 6,768 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon 2011 model year pickup trucks. According to NHTSA, an ornery transmission adjustment clip might not keep the shift cable in the correct position. This could cause drivers to think there truck is in park, when in fact it's just waiting to roll away in neutral.
A smaller recall notice has been issued for 739 trucks and SUVs due to a steering shaft bolt that's been improperly tightened. If loose, it could make for rather difficult steering and cause an accident. This recall affects the 2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

Reviewers generally like how the Volt feels, quality-wise. The Detroit News notes, “The cabin is simply the best Chevy interior available. The two-tone dash clearly marks the traditional dual cockpit design that moves from the dash through the doors in a nearly seamless look. This helps the cabin feel even bigger. The grains and materials are all top notch throughout."

Based on my experience with the Volt, I thought the car felt as high-quality as a Prius. That’s a pretty subjective measure, but to me, the doors closed with a nice solid sound, road noise was well-muffled and the cabin had a quality feel. I would have liked a nicer fabric on the seats. Leather is an option, but my test car just didn’t have it. The plastics felt and looked good. I especially liked the center stack. It had a cool design, and the integrated buttons made it easy to clean.

General Motors has committed to investing a total of $2 billion in 17 of its facilities here in the United States, and the latest to receive monitory support is the Arlington Assembly Plant in Texas. $331 million is being pumped into the Arlington facility for tooling and equipment in an effort to expand the plant. 110 jobs will also be added to the facility's existing 2,400-person workforce.
Currently, the plant builds The General's GMT900 sport-utility vehicles: the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. GM likely has no plans to abandon this segment anytime soon, so it only makes sense that the plant will be updated in order to support the next generation of these full-size SUVs.
The Arlington Assembly investment comes after GM made efforts to expand its Detroit-Hamtramck, Bowling Green, Flint and Bay City facilities.

Chevrolet will sell 500 replicas of the 2011 Camaro convertible Indianapolis 500 pace car that will lead the race marking the 100th anniversary of the first running of the 500 this May.
Tracing a lineage that dates to Louis Chevrolet racing on a dirt oval at Indy, the 2011 Camaro pace car pays tribute to the 1969 Camaro pace car with similar white-and-orange livery. Power comes from a 6.2-liter V8 making 400 hp. The car will be offered with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
"Chevrolet has enjoyed a strong connection to the Brickyard," Chevy marketing vice president Rick Scheidt said during the sale announcement at the Chicago auto show on Wednesday.
Chevy has an agreement to supply the IndyCar series with twin-turbo V6 powerplants in 2012.
The Camaro pace-car replicas will come in SS trim enhanced with Brembo brakes, 20-inch wheels and performance launch control. The convertible model is also reinforced with added support and braces to reduce cowl shake.
Chevy has paced the Indy 500 more than any other brand, dating to the 1948 Fleetmaster Six. A long list of Camaros, Corvettes and everything from a Bel-Air to a Beretta have led the race.

Chevrolet‘s fleet-only Caprice will likely be sold to the General Public after a tide of interest forced General Motors to re-consider their plans to restrict sales to fleets.
The Caprice is essentially a stretched version of the Pontiac G8, a rear-drive, V8 powered large sedan based off the much-lauded, Australian market Holden Commodore. The G8 was beloved by enthusiasts but tepidly received by the public. The G8 lasted only two model years before the Pontiac brand was killed by General Motors.
According to a report from Carenvy.ca, a “very reliable source” confirmed that the car will be sold in dealerships, but gave no details as to trim levels or how the vehicle would be positioned. After contact Car Envy’s Peter Dushenski, we’re inclined to believe the information as true. The new Caprice nameplate has a ton of cachet among a few demographics, as boomers remember the car from their youth, and young people associate the car with hip-hop music, lowriders and “donks”. The prospect of a Corvette derived small-block V8 is also enticing.
General Motors also revealed their first pictures of the “Detective Package” Caprice, which should give some major clues as to how the civilian version will look if it comes to market. A Caprice sold to the public will likely have an upgraded interior compared to the G8 and the workhorse versions, and don’t be surprised to see a V6 version as well.

If the Corvette Stingray concept foreshadows the next-generation C7 Corvette, then what might the production car look like? That’s the question our artist has attempted to answer with a speculative illustration of the 2011 version of the iconic sports car.
Given the concept’s massive wheels, exaggerated exterior, and extremely low roofline, there’s almost no way the production C7 Corvette will look exactly like it. However, we don’t think GM has created this concept for no reason at all.
With that in mind, we’ve created a speculative illustration of the production C7 based on the concept. It has small LED headlights that create a similar effect to the hideaway lamps of yore, and the overall styling is a fusion of new and old design cues.
Although details surrounding the C7 project remain scarce, General Motors has confirmed that the C7 Corvette will begin production in April 2012 as a 2013 model. The C7 Corvette will retain its front-engine layout, forgoing a more costly – and complex – mid-engine setup.
One speculated engine option would be a twin-turbo 3.6-liter DOHC V6 capable of 400 horsepower. If the V6 engine does make it into the production C7, you can count on a premium V8 to be available as well for those who like the classic V8 rumble Corvette’s are known for.

One of America's most successful sports cars, the Chevy Corvette got its start in 1953 as an attractive two-seater known more for its look than its performance. Throughout the next four decades the Chevy Corvette would take on a variety of different forms for each era, from the Sting Ray of the '60s to the C5 of the late '90s. Each generation is a little bit different from one another but the same emphasis on performance has always remained the same.
The C5 Chevy Corvette premiered for the 1997 model year and stayed in production until 2004. With a top speed of around 171 miles per hour, it was also the sleekest and curviest version of the model to be produced. The C5 was equipped with an LS1 5.7L V8 good for approximately 345 horsepower and mated to either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Horsepower was increased to 350 in 2001. And although the model debuted as a coupe only, a convertible version was released in 1998. The current Chevy Corvette is as full of American muscle as it gets. Available in three trims (base, Z06, and ZR1), even the standard Corvette shows off heavy-duty performance with a 6.2L V8 with 430 horsepower and is married to either a six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission. The Z06 steps it up a notch with a 7.0L V8 that showcases over 500 HP but it's the top-level ZR1 that burns up the pavement. Japan's third-biggest automaker, owned 44 per cent by France's Renault SA, marked the official launch of its premium Infiniti brand across Europe at the Geneva auto show this week, taking an important step in its drive to make the marque a global player.

Ghosn, who also heads Renault, has set a seemingly cautious sales target of 25,000 Infiniti cars in 2013, but stressed volume expansion was not the main goal.

"If volume growth is compatible with high profit margins then it's okay, but otherwise I'm happy to remain a niche," Ghosn told a small group of reporters at the Geneva auto show.

"It's not enough for Infiniti to have better margins than Nissan – we're benchmarking ourselves against profitability at (Toyota Motor Corp's) Lexus and Porsche," he said.

Ghosn did not specify a margin target beyond saying it should be in the double-digits, but said: "If you're doing the job right, then 20 per cent for a luxury brand is possible."

In a thinly veiled swipe at the biggest premium carmakers, BMW, Daimler AG and Audi AG, Ghosn said that operating margins of just 7-8 per cent for a luxury make was problematic.

Japan's top automakers Toyota, Honda Motor Co and Nissan all make operating margins north of 7 per cent with their mostly mainsteam vehicles.

Infiniti, which has a growing following in the United States where it debuted nearly 20 years ago, boosted its sales by more than 12 per cent last year.

In Russia, where the brand was launched in 2006, sales are expected to come to 6,000 units in the 12 months to the end of March.

Ghosn took the wraps off the new FX50 sport utility vehicle (SUV) late on Tuesday in the first world premiere of an Infiniti car outside North America. The second-generation FX50 SUV has a 5-litre engine generating 390 horsepower.

While one Democratic senator from Michigan, Debbie Stabenow, said it's unacceptable that it will take that long to get the money flowing, the other, Carl Levin, said it will still produce "a quicker shift to the advanced technology than would otherwise occur."

Manufacturers and their domestic suppliers say they will use the money to offer a broader array of gas-electric vehicles, more fuel-efficient engines and plug-in electric cars that could be on the market within two years.

The loans are expected to carry an interest rate of around 5 percent. With weak sales, poor bond ratings and tighter credit markets, U.S. automakers would otherwise have to pay double-digit interest rates.

Executives with General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC asked Congress this summer to fund the loans, which were authorized last year in an energy bill that ordered automakers to meet costly new fuel-efficiency standards of at least 35 miles per gallon by 2020.

"Congress clearly recognizes the need to move forward at this critical time to make available this source of capital for automakers and suppliers," said GM spokesman Greg Martin.

It's unclear how the money will be divided, and the companies have not said which projects they'll seek funding for.

GM recently unveiled a production version of the Chevrolet Volt, which is expected to propel the car up to 40 miles on a single charge. The company announced plans this week to build an engine plant in Flint, Mich., to produce a four-cylinder engine for the Volt and the Chevrolet Cruze, a new compact car to be built in Lordstown, Ohio.

Ford has already outlined plans to bring over six small, fuel-efficient cars it makes in Europe for sale in North America. Chrysler showed three electric-powered prototypes last week and said it plans to sell one in the U.S. in 2010.
