Corvette Marks 60 Years

Chevrolet today unveiled the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the fastest, most capable convertible in Corvette’s history – as well as a 60th Anniversary Package that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models.
“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”
The 60th Anniversary Package and 427 Convertible will make their public debut at the Barrett Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan 21, and will arrive at U.S. Chevrolet dealers early this summer. Chevrolet wheels

2012 Chevrolet Sonic

2012 Chevrolet Sonic hatchback. The Sonic replaces the Aveo as Chevrolet's smallest car in North America (it's still called Aveo in Europe), but it also signals that GM has finally realized, like Mini, Fiat, Scion, Mazda, Honda and Ford, that small cars can be really cool. The torque-laden turbo motor comes only with a 6-speed manual, while the 1.8-liter has a 6-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. The turbo produces much more torque than the 1.8, and boost arrives without lag.

Chevy Grills.

The Chevrolet Spark is only 144.7 inches long – nearly two feet shorter than the subcompact Sonic. But while the Spark is small in size, designers have made a real effort to make sure that it can still stand out in a crowd.

Power comes from The General's diminutive 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine, with 85 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 82 pound-feet of torque at 4,200 RPM, mated to either a standard five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. That's not a lot of go-juice, but luckily the Spark weighs in at only 2,269 pounds when equipped with the manual transmission.
The little hatchback will feature an available MyLink infotainment system with a seven-inch touch screen that features smartphone-based navigation and Bluetooth for hands-free calling. The Spark also comes with standard 15-inch alloy wheels, which should help reduce cabin noise compared to the steel wheels that are standard on many subcompacts.

Chevy Captiva News

Chevrolet began deliveries of its Captiva fleet vehicle last week. The compact crossover is imported from Mexico and bears a striking resemblance to the recently deceased Saturn Vue. Don't think we're about to see the vehicle show up in the company's consumer lineup, however. General Motors says that the Captiva will remain a fleet-only offering in the near future. That doesn't mean that GM isn't keen to grow its compact crossover offerings, though. Automotive News reports that GM is currently mulling a high-riding vehicle based on the Sonic for both Chevrolet and Buick.
Earlier this year, our spy photographers spotted a high-riding Sonic out testing, and the AN report suggests that the baby Buick crossover could arrive on showroom floors sometime next year, possibly as a 2013 model. The only question is whether or not Chevrolet will follow suit with a version of its own. That would leave the Chevy lineup with the Traverse, Equinox and this new model for a very crossover-heavy lineup. GM is apparently considering every angle at this point.

Chevrolet touts 2012 Sonic's 40-mpg highway rating.
With an EPA-rated 40 mpg on the highway, Chevrolet is calling its 2012 Sonic one of the most fuel-efficient small cars on the market.
Chevy says that 40-mpg rating puts the Sonic right on par with the 2012 Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Accent in terms of eco-friendliness.
In city driving, the 1.4-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine gets 29 mpg. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission, the Sonic reaches 60 mph in 8.2 seconds, which isn't too shabby.
Production for the Sonic--the replacement for the Chevy Aveo and one of the only subcompact cars currently built in the United States--began this summer at a General Motors assembly plant in Michigan.

Chevy Side Steps

A handful of General Motors trucks and sport utility vehicles need to head on in to their local dealerships. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has just issued a pair of recall notice for 7,507 vehicles as part of two separate safety actions.
The first covers 6,768 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon 2011 model year pickup trucks. According to NHTSA, an ornery transmission adjustment clip might not keep the shift cable in the correct position. This could cause drivers to think there truck is in park, when in fact it's just waiting to roll away in neutral.
A smaller recall notice has been issued for 739 trucks and SUVs due to a steering shaft bolt that's been improperly tightened. If loose, it could make for rather difficult steering and cause an accident. This recall affects the 2011 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

Chevy Volt Quality.

Unfortunately, Stastny, there’s not. The Volt hasn’t been out long enough for the kind of long-term ownership and maintenance data you’re looking for. Reviewers generally like how the Volt feels, quality-wise. The Detroit News notes, “The cabin is simply the best Chevy interior available. The two-tone dash clearly marks the traditional dual cockpit design that moves from the dash through the doors in a nearly seamless look. This helps the cabin feel even bigger. The grains and materials are all top notch throughout."
Chevrolet is also offering extra warranty coverage on the Volt: an eight-year/100,000 mile warranty on the battery pack, a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, a five-year/100,000 mile gas engine warranty and five years/100,000 miles of roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.
Based on my experience with the Volt, I thought the car felt as high-quality as a Prius. That’s a pretty subjective measure, but to me, the doors closed with a nice solid sound, road noise was well-muffled and the cabin had a quality feel. I would have liked a nicer fabric on the seats. Leather is an option, but my test car just didn’t have it. The plastics felt and looked good. I especially liked the center stack. It had a cool design, and the integrated buttons made it easy to clean.
